The Light of Discernment (Viveka)

Serene woman meditating by a lake with a glowing lantern on her chest; text says Viveka—The Light of Discernment.

Discernment is the ability to see clearly.

It helps us recognise the difference between what is temporary and what is lasting, between reaction and response, between the voice of fear and the voice of wisdom.

Without awareness, we are often carried away by old habits and conditioned patterns. Through practice, the mind becomes quieter and our vision becomes clearer.

Viveka does not ask us to judge ourselves or others. Instead, it invites us to pause, reflect, and choose consciously.

Like a lamp in a dark room, discernment illuminates what was once hidden. The more we cultivate this inner clarity, the more our choices begin to align with our deepest values.

Yoga is not only about learning how to move the body; it is also about learning how to live wisely.

When the light of discernment is present, we stop asking, "What is easy?" and begin asking, "What is true?"

And often, that quiet inner knowing gently guides us home.
